Want to escape civilization and feel like a true nomad? Our new location Matai Yurts is located in the open steppe with a view of the Matai mountain range.
- Setting: On one side are the majestic Dzhungarian mountains, on the other — a small green oasis where a park ranger lives. This is the Shygan ranger station, just 7 km from the village of Basshi. During the day, the routes of travelers heading to the Singing Dune pass through here. But at sunset, when the sun goes behind the mountain ridge and colors the steppe with golden light, the park gradually empties. With the onset of darkness, absolute silence reigns here, and the location turns into a secluded pocket of peace.
- Amenities: We are developing our location, trying to add comfort to the steppe conditions. At the ranger station, there is already an artesian well with drinking water and an outdoor toilet. Currently, we are building a compact sanitary block with a water tank: familiar amenities — a toilet, a sink, and a shower — will be equipped inside.
- Authentic Yurts: This is a real traditional classic made of wood with a simple, laconic decoration and the true spirit of steppe life. At the same time, there is everything you need inside: electricity is connected, colorful carpets lie on the floor, there are soft mattresses and bed linen. Wooden carved doors and an open dome (shañyraq) provide excellent natural ventilation. Thanks to this, a comfortable temperature is always maintained in the yurt, and the night coolness gives a long-awaited rest even after the strongest daytime heat.
- Caravansarai — Our Base Campsite in Basshi: If at some point you want maximum comfort, you can always drive to our main Caravansarai Campsite in Basshi (just a 7-minute drive away) to freshen up in the spacious and modern showers. Delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners await you there as well. This is a great opportunity to spend time in a friendly atmosphere, chat with our hospitable team, and meet travelers from all over the world. If a secluded picnic right by your yurts is closer to you — we will pack sets with homemade takeaway food for you.
- Philosophy of the Stay: Spending the night in a steppe yurt is a unique experience. It is the perfect choice for those who want to truly connect with ancient nomadic life — where opening your yurt door places you face-to-face with the vast Kazakh steppe and its unmistakable scent of freedom. After all, Altyn-Emel is not just about its famous natural wonders; it is about this honest, pristine steppe and the timeless mountains.
