Summer in Altyn-Emel

GO TO ALTYN-EMEL

The park's main treasures — the phenomenal Singing Dune, the Martian landscapes of Aktau, and the frozen lava of Katutau — are located in the arid desert zone. These places offer incredible scenery but also harsh conditions: there is almost no shade here, and water sources are completely absent in the Aktau Mountains. Remember that although the Singing Dune is adjacent to the Ili River, access to the water's edge is strictly prohibited to protect the ecosystem.

If your journey falls during the hot months, prepare for temperatures of +30°C and above. Be sure to bring water supply (can be bought in Basshi), light, protective clothing, headwear.

Summer heat is the best time to discover another side of Altyn-Emel. Head to the foothills of the Dzhungarian Alatau Mountains, which frame the park from the north. Here, you will find shady, wild gorges, cool mountain rivers, and healing springs.

And in late summer, it is especially pleasant to stay in the village of Basshi: the local gardens delight with a rich harvest at this time. You can feast on fresh, juicy apples, peaches, and apricots.
